(203) Brno – South Center (approx. 100 ha)

Brno South Center is an ambitious project involving the regeneration of 100 ha (247 acres) of non-utilized territory in the close vicinity to the town center. The intention of the project is to provide development of a new part of the town central zone for administrative, business, cultural and social purposes, with also the possibility of comfortable living accommodation.

The part of the project prepared and realized by the city development company JIŽNÍ CENTRUM BRNO, a.s. is the creation of a modern technological background for accommodating firms and representatives of regional, national or European institutions. The intention is realization of the conditions for further town development, including additional works on the construction of modern infrastructure, high-quality services and a comfortable transport connection between Brno and other European towns.

At present, the preparations for the following key-sections of the project are in progress:

  • reconstruction of the technical monument – the former Engineering and Casting House "Vaňkovka"

  • reconstruction of the railway hub Brno

The area between the Central Bus Station and the current Main Railway Station (a block called Vaňkovka) is in the 1st stage of the regeneration of the South Center intended for the purposes of entrepreneurial construction. The aim of this stage is to create the center of social life in the new town section of the South Center. It should be accomplished by concentrating commercial, cultural and educational functions that will be followed by construction of living accommodations, possibly hotels and administrative buildings.

After reaching an agreement with the joint stock company JIŽNÍ CENTRUM BRNO, the transnational corporation ECE started the construction of the Business Community Center - Vaňkovka Gallery for which they want to utilize the specific character of parts of the former Vaňkovka factory.
